There’s some dispute over where candy canes, the traditional red and white striped sweet stick, originated. Some people cite 1600s folklore where a choirmaster in Cologne, Germany, tasked a local confectioner with making sugar sticks, that resembled canes the shepherds used who visited baby Jesus, to help keep children quiet during the Christmas Eve service. Wherever they came from, there’s little doubt that candy canes are a prominent part of the modern Christmas experience.
If you’re looking for a new and tasty take on the sweet treat, this Candy Cane Smoothie recipe is perfect. With 26g of protein per serving, it’s a great post-workout festive treat.
