We’re always on the lookout for quick and easy snack bowls that are tasty and nutritious, and this latest recipe ticks all the boxes. Maca is packed full of vitamins, so it’s no wonder it’s a great addition to many smoothie and smoothie bowl recipes. Readily available in powder form, maca is a root that hails from South America and mixes well in all types of recipes.
And, of course, because we can never satisfy our craving for peanut butter, this recipe is jam-packed with nutty goodness!
We’ve also got the option to make this recipe either vegan or non-vegan, depending which protein powder you choose. Whether it’s the vegan pea protein or refined whey protein isolate, both versions are super tasty and healthy.
How much maca powder should I put in my smoothie?
This maca smoothie bowl recipe uses one teaspoon of maca powder but how much you put in your smoothies is really up to you and your personal taste. Anything from one teaspoon to two tablespoons of maca per smoothie is considered enough to get the real maca benefit and taste but experiment with what works for you and your recipes.
Can you taste maca powder in smoothies?
That brings us to taste. Maca is very much a love it or leave it taste. It has quite a strong and distinct caramel/malt-like flavour that can work really well in smoothies, but try it first with the amount in this recipe before you start experimenting with your own maca smoothie recipes so you can work up to a stronger flavour. We’ve also included natural, plant-based sweeteners in this recipe that can alter the taste – but give it a go and explore something new!
