As strong fans of free-from protein recipes and treats, we felt it our duty to scour the market and find you the best selection of alternative and vegan Easter eggs so you can enjoy an indulgence this weekend with the best of them.
The Bar Egg
Kicking things off is a very controversial Easter treat indeed – a chocolate bar! Now hear us out.
The amazing people at Divine Chocolate also produce a range of vegan and non-vegan chocolate eggs in a host of decadent flavours, but this year they’ve extended the range with a limited edition Hot Cross Bun Chocolate Bar.
Free from palm oil, this bar achieves a melt-in-the-mouth hot cross bun taste through a mix of spices and raisins.
Try pairing it with homemade protein hot cross buns and you’ve got an enviable Easter afternoon tea.
The Low Sugar Egg
Chococo is an award-winning chocolatier based in Dorset who make all of their delicious chocolates by hand, they also featured in our Top Vegan Gifts round-up.
Their Easter range has delivered on their commitment to a recipe that is high in cocoa solids and low in sugar. If you’re looking to reduce your sugar intake this Easter, start with Chococo. Options include the vegan-friendly Madagascar Totally Dark Sugar Free Egg and the 85% Mega Dark Low Sugar Egg.
For something a bit sweeter, they also have some impressive designs in their Unicorn, Dinosaur and Seaside themed eggs. For the vegans who are missing milk chocolate, they’ve also launched the Vegan Milc Free Egg, which uses local Malagasy cashew nuts to give it its smooth creamy texture.
The Compostable Egg
Hotel Chocolat is renowned for their quirky Easter designs, but they’ve gone above and beyond this year with their selection of free-from and sustainable eggs.
Not only do they have a cute Soft-boiled Easter Egg that’s vegan friendly and Free-From Bunnies that everyone can enjoy, whatever their dietary needs this Easter, but their Quail Eggs are packaged in a sustainable egg box.
Made from bagasse, a sugarcane by-product, it’s compostable and biodegradable. So the packaging will be gone nearly as quickly as you can eat what’s inside!
The Dark Egg
When you think of smooth dark chocolate, you think of Green & Black’s.
Whether you want an Easter bundle or just that one perfect egg, they have you covered. Their Organic Dark Collection Egg comes with the Dark Chocolate with Ginger and Dark Chocolate with Burnt Toffee bars in addition to organic and fairtrade thick-shelled dark chocolate egg.
The Artisan Egg
Named ‘Best Free From Easter Egg’ by Good Housekeeping Magazine, Booja-Booja’s Easter range has a lot going for it.
Rather than one giant chocolate egg, each Booja-Booja “Easter Egg” is actually a beautifully hand-painted egg-shaped box filled with tasty dairy-free truffles.
Partnering with a community of artisans in Kashmir, India, the egg boxes are made using traditional methods and materials and work towards reinvigorating an entire community. Once the boxes are made, they are shipped to Booja-Booja in Norfolk where they are filled with the company’s delicious organic truffles that are free from artificial preservatives, additives and stabilisers.
The Dairy-free Egg
Moo Free is a multi-award winning free-from Easter Egg manufacturer based in Devon that prides itself on its ethical policies for zero landfill waste and no animal-derived ingredients.
Their Sea Salt and Caramel Easter Egg combines creamy, sweet caramel with vanilla and Portuguese sea salt in a milk-free “milk” chocolate egg.
The Dark 65 Egg is a 65% dark chocolate egg uses Hispaniola variety cocoa beans, which only account for 4% of all cocoa beans produced in the San Francisco de Macoris region of the Dominican Republic. These select beans are what gives it its exclusive intricately fruity profile – delicious!
The Indulgent Ethical Egg
Not only is Goupie’s chocolate completely vegan, gluten-free and packaged in a reusable tin egg, but they’re also truly decadent. Choose from either the Original Goupie Egg or the Salted Sticky Toffee Goupie, both are delicious.
